The paper presents the results of an analysis of the communication patterns that characterize The Rand Corporation's use of RandMail, its electronic messaging system. The goal of the work was to explore and assess the development of electronic messaging systems in the context of expanding use. A variety of quantitative properties of these communication networks are presented, including both sociometric structures and network metrics.
