Abstract: This paper describes a methodological and topical
        framework for studying collaboration in research
        settings. The framework is intended to capture the
        central activities and issues in research
        collaboration, and to represent them in a way that
        can inform the design of computer support. The
        starting premises for studying collaboration are
        presented, the use of qualitative ad naturalistic
        methods described, and preliminary findings
        reported.
