Abstract: Users encountered unexpected communicative
        breakdowns when using Cognoter, a multi-user idea
        organizing tool. Difficulties stemmed from an
        incorrect model of conversation implicit int the
        software's design. A more realistic model of the
        user situation was created, and the tool
        redesigned.
